John Lester James papers, 1910-1971 bulk 1938-1971.

Photographs, color transparencies, journal, newspaper clippings, and other items documenting James' mining activities in the West including: his involvement with the operation of a gold dredge at Ophir Creek, Alaska, in 1910; as superintendent of the Manhattan Gold Dredging Company's dredge operation in Nye County, Nev., during the late 1930s and 1940s; managing the Natomas Company's dredge at Copper Canyon (Battle Mountain Mining District) in Lander County, Nev., from 1950 to 1955; and with his wife, Evelyn, retiring to Carson City, Nev., in the mid-1950s, where for a decade they operated the Gold Pan Rock Shop.
